The main objective of the present study was to describe the social and demographic factors that promote the formation of the bond between cats and their caregivers, as well as to identify the benefits associated with this interaction. To achieve this, measurement instruments for animal attachment, such as the Lexington Pet Attachment Scale (LAPS) and the Perceived Benefits Scale (EBP), were administered to 162 participants from various Colombian cities. From this group, a subgroup of 22 individuals was selected for the measurement of physiological variables, including blood pressure and heart rate, before, during, and after petting their cats. The results revealed that social factors, such as a higher frequency of petting and interaction with the cat, as well as reciprocal grooming by the cat towards the caregiver, promote a stronger attachment bond. Furthermore, demographic factors such as gender and age were also found to be significant, with women and younger individuals tending to develop and perceive deeper bonds with their feline companions. Finally, a positive correlation between attachment and perceived benefits was found, except for the measured physiological variables. These findings illustrate the benefits that arise from the human-cat bond, with positive implications for mental health. Similarly, they support the possibility of expanding cat-assisted therapies, especially in vulnerable populations.spa
