The book is required reading for all those seeking to understand the history of sentencing in various periods, even nowadays. As the author points out: “This book recovers a significant number of pages and ideas from my Doctoral Thesis, defended in 2011 at the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona, ​​from which, on the one hand, I have removed extensive specific developments, and on the other, I have updated and added new ones, to offer a work of a more general nature” (p. 25).
