| spa |
| dc.description.abstractenglish | Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment occurs when there is a separation between the neurosensory retina and the retinal pigment epithelium secondary to a break in the retina. Macular detachment has been identified as an important indicator of poor prognosis for visual recovery in these patients and classically, a possible window of 7 to 10 days has been considered, however, there is evidence in the literature that a window of maximum 72 hours could be associated with better visual outcomes. Retrospective studies carried out previously in other centers analyze visual and functional outcomes in these patients, however, no study like this has been performed in our population. The objective of this study is to compare anatomical and functional outcomes in patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment macula-on vs macula-off in a fourth level ophthalmological center in northeastern Colombia from January 2016 to December 2021. An analysis of anonymized secondary data was carried out from a database of data from the ophthalmology service of the Virgilio Galvis ophthalmological center of patients with a diagnosis of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment treated from January 2016 to December 2021. Plus performed a bivariate analysis with a paired Student's T to estimate the difference in means in the group of macula ON and macula OFF in the preoperative and final best-corrected visual acuity variables; and a measure of association of crude ORs between the group with the best corrected final VA worse than 20/30 and the group with the best final VA corrected better than or equal to 20/30 with multiple independent variables, then the significant variables in the bivariate model were entered into the multivariate model. We hope through this study to be able characterize the study population and evaluate if it is possible to define a management window that generates adjustments in the management protocols of our institution. | spa |
