| spa |
| dc.description.abstractenglish | Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas are a group of pathologies that have been a challenge for medicine for many years, due to their difficult diagnosis and management, a situation that translates into a poor prognosis for patients. To make a correct diagnosis, in addition to a good clinical history, a histopathological study is necessary, which most of the time does not allow lymphoma to be classified and therefore it is necessary to resort to other more specialized techniques such as immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry or Cytogenetics. . All of the above results in a delay in a timely diagnosis for the patient and costs for health institutions. Many of these patients die without a correct diagnosis and even worse without adequate treatment. On the other hand, the treatment of lymphomas differs according to the histological subtype, a situation that makes the classification of all lymphomas essential for the prognosis and for correct and adequate therapy. The incidence of NHL varies considerably between different countries, but It is approximately 3-6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants/year. Its frequency increases every year. According to data from the Cancer Registry of the Bucaramanga Metropolitan Area, non-Hodgkin Lymphoma ranks ninth among all malignant neoplasms. From 2000 to 2006, 320 cases of non-Hodgkin lymphomas were registered, which are not subclassified. All of the above leads us to the need to establish an easy mechanism to achieve the classification of non-Hodakin lymphomas into the different histological subtypes, which strengthens specific management, improving survival. This adequate classification will allow us to fully understand the epidemiological behavior of this type of injuries. It should be noted that at no time will the initial diagnosis be reviewed. | eng |
