Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic illness that causes great clinical discomfort to the patient and their family and demands a great use of family, medical and social resources.” 2 Its prevalence in children and adolescents can vary from 0.25 to 3.5% and increases with age.** It is possible that 80% of adult OCD cases begin in childhood.” OCD is difficult to detect since patients rarely consult due to the lack of introspection of their illness, particularly in children. Others are afraid to consult because of the embarrassing type of obsessions and compulsions they present. In the study by Heyman et al, only 12% of children with OCD had been seen in specialized services. * Hollander et al mention that the interval between the onset of symptoms and the establishment of adequate treatment can take 17 years.* The diagnosis of OCD is expensive as it requires an interview by a trained professional. However, there are several self-reported screening scales, of which the Leyton Obsession Inventory for Children (LOI-CV) is the most used in population-based studies in the United States and Europe. *? The LOI-CV was created in 1985 by Berg ef al of the original for adults;'? In 1988 they presented the validation of a version with 20 items with good psychometric properties; however, there are actually 40 items since it initially asks dichotomously the presence of the symptom and then its level of interference with a Liker-type scale.'* Bamber et al. proposed a version that evaluates only the presence or absence of the symptom using a Liker-type scale to reduce response time, facilitate understanding, and better capture the child's attention.'* With a cut-off point of 5 or more, sensitivity It was 78%, specificity 70%, positive predictive value 32% and negative predictive value 95%.'* Despite the importance of this pathology, in Colombia its evaluation is usually omitted, perhaps due to the lack of valid and reliable instruments.! * The objective of this study is to evaluate the validity and reliability of a dichotomous Spanish version of the LOI-CV for children and adolescents. In this way, screening of children affected with OCD is facilitated, allowing early detection and early treatment.spa
