| spa |
| dc.description.abstractenglish | Human beings and dogs belong to social species which establish social bonds and exhibit different behavioral strategies to maintain them; for example, they reconciliate more often with valued partners. Another tactic consists in jealousy, that is the presence of a complex social emotion which allows to guard a valued social bond against a potential rival. The aim of this study was to evaluate various behaviors related to jealousy in a sample of 11 domestic dogs when a third party (human) interact with the owner. As indicators of jealousy were taken into account the time next to the owner and attention request. In addition the stay behavior between the owner and the third party was larger with the affiliative third party than with the neutral third party. The findings suggest that dogs show similarities with human beings in the way they deal with a threat against valued social relationships and they exhibit jealousy behaviors as a tactic to protect them. | spa |
