| spa |
| dc.description.abstractenglish | New phacoemulsification techniques may theoretically offer benefits in terms of visual acuity, corneal edema, and endothelial cell loss. This study compared three surgical techniques: “Divide and Conquer,” “Stop and Chop,” and “Double Chop.” In 156 eyes operated on by two surgeons, endothelial cell loss (as a percentage reduction in cell density), change in central corneal thickness, and postoperative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were evaluated. Intraoperative parameters (CDE, fluid volume, surgical time, and ultrasound time) were analyzed using ANOVA, Pearson correlations, and multiple linear regression. The “Stop and Chop” technique showed greater endothelial cell loss (18.1 ± 15.9%) compared to “Divide and Conquer” (11.6 ± 14.8%) and “Double Chop” (11.7 ± 13.9%), although post hoc differences were not statistically significant. BCVA showed no significant differences among the three techniques. Changes in pachymetry also did not differ significantly. In the univariate analysis, only the “Stop and Chop” group showed a significant correlation between endothelial loss and both CDE and ultrasound time. Statistically significant differences in endothelial loss between the two surgeons were found with “Divide and Conquer” and “Stop and Chop,” but not with “Double Chop.” The multivariable model did not identify any independent significant predictors. All three techniques produced good postoperative outcomes. Endothelial loss correlated with CDE only in the “Stop and Chop” technique. “Double Chop” showed more consistent results between surgeons, supporting further investigation. | spa |
