dc.description.abstractEl carcinoma de próstata se constituye en el cáncer más común en hombres, siendo la segunda causa de muerte por cáncer en hombres en los Estados Unidos. La sociedad americana de cáncer estimó que se presentarían 180.400 nuevos casos y 31.900 muertes por esta causa durante el año 2.000 en USA1,2. En Colombia la tasa de mortalidad por carcinoma de próstata es de 0.24 por 1000 hombres entre 45 y 59 años, y de 7.12 por mil para el rango de 60 o más años de edad3,4. Debido a su alta incidencia, esta entidad clínica genera un gran interés por la investigación relacionada con los medios diagnósticos utilizados para su detección en la actualidad.spa
dc.description.abstractenglishProstate carcinoma is the most common cancer in men, being the second leading cause of cancer death in men in the United States. The American Cancer Society estimated that there would be 180,400 new cases and 31,900 deaths from this cause during the year 2000 in the USA1,2. In Colombia, the mortality rate from prostate carcinoma is 0.24 per 1,000 men between 45 and 59 years of age, and 7.12 per thousand for the range of 60 or more years of age3,4.
