| dc.description.abstract | El síndrome del túnel del carpo es la neuropatía compresiva periférica más común, teniendo una prevalencia aproximada del 5% en la población general y del 14% en la población trabajadora, y es particularmente más frecuente en mujeres (3). En la Clínica Carlos Ardila Lülle se atienden aproximadamente 5 casos nuevos semanales de esta patología. A pesar de ser una patología frecuente, la evaluación diagnostica del Túnel del carpo es un proceso difícil, actualmente dependiente de la historia clínica, examen físico (prueba de Tinel, Phalen y Durkan), electromiografía y la respuesta al tratamiento conservador. La Electromiografía es un factor determinante en la decisión entre un tratamiento conservador y quirúrgico. Consiste en la inserción de electrodos en los músculos a lo largo de la inervación del Nervio mediano y utilización de pequeños voltajes a través de estos, siendo bastante molesto para el paciente, además de ser costoso y con una tasa de falsos negativos entre 10-20%(4). | spa |
| dc.description.abstractenglish | Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common peripheral compressive neuropathy, with an approximate prevalence of 5% in the general population and 14% in the working population, and is particularly more frequent in women (3). At the Carlos Ardila Lülle Clinic, approximately 5 new cases of this pathology are treated weekly. Despite being a frequent pathology, the diagnostic evaluation of carpal tunnel is a difficult process, currently dependent on clinical history, physical examination (Tinel, Phalen and Durkan test), electromyography and response to conservative treatment. Electromyography is a determining factor in the decision between conservative and surgical treatment. It consists of the insertion of electrodes in the muscles along the innervation of the Median Nerve and the use of small voltages through them, being quite annoying for the patient, besides being expensive and with a false negative rate between 10-20 %(4). | spa |
