dc.description.abstractLa punción lumbar es un procedimiento que se emplea con fines diagnósticos al medir la presión o al obtener muestras del líquido cefalorraquídeo (LCR) para su análisis de laboratorio; en anestesia espinal para introducir un agente anestésico dentro del espacio subaracnoideo por medio de una aguja; para estudios por imágenes como en la mielografía, cisternografía o la Mielo-TAC con el objeto de instilar medio de contraste radio opaco antes de la obtención de imágenes radiológicas y algunas veces para administrar quimioterapia intratecal u otros medicamentos. También se presentan punciones accidentales de la duramadre en la anestesia epidural. Como todo procedimiento invasivo no está exento de presentar efectos adversos y complicaciones, ya sean derivados de la punción por si misma o de las sustancias que se emplean con ella.spa
dc.description.abstractenglishLumbar puncture is a procedure used for diagnostic purposes by measuring pressure or obtaining samples of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for laboratory analysis; in spinal anesthesia to introduce an anesthetic agent into the subarachnoid space by means of a needle; for imaging studies such as myelography, cisternography, or myelo-CT to instill radiopaque contrast medium prior to imaging radiological tests and sometimes to give intrathecal chemotherapy or other drugs. Accidental punctures of the dura mater also occur during epidural anesthesia. Like any invasive procedure, it is not exempt from presenting adverse effects and complications, whether derived from the puncture itself or from the substances used with it.spa
