This report presents the findings of a classroom observation-based investigation of the functions of language teachers' oral behaviors in the development of EFL classes. Through this class investigation, the teaching and learning processes as they occur in our language classrooms were investigated. Descriptive research methodology was used. The information was collected through class observation and surveys of the observed teachers. The functions of the teacher's speech and its frequency were identified in 15 general English as a foreign language classes from three private universities in Bucaramanga, Colombia. The database comprises transcripts of more than 16 hours of interaction classes in English classes. The teacher's speech functions were analyzed and coded according to the categories of the FLint instrument developed by Moskowitz (1971). The findings showed that teachers are the ones who talk the most in class and the most frequent categories are giving information, asking questions, and giving directions. The study also demonstrated that oral teaching strategies in the class affect the students' participation process.spa
