Major depressive disorder (MDD) is the main cause of psychiatric morbidity with a great burden on the general health of the individual and high economic costs due to loss of work days. The self-administered scales for depression designed independently by William Zung and the Center for Epidemiological Studies (CES-D) are widely used in the world, including Colombia; however, you do not know its performance in terms of a formal validation process. The objective is to establish the construct, content and criterion validity of the Zung and CES-D self-administered scales for depression in the adult population of the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga. A scale validation study will be carried out with naturalistic sampling. 355 people from the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga who were between 18 and 65 years old were randomly selected in a three-stage manner. The Zung scale and CES-D were applied alternately; Subsequently, a psychiatrist conducted the SCIDI semi-structured interview to diagnose major depressive disorder in the last month, according to DSM-IV criteria. Both participants and interviewers were blinded to the results of the scales.spa
